Rural hospitals face growing financial trouble, says Moody’s
As some nonprofit health systems prosper, others are falling short, according to a report which says 28.4% of nonprofit hospitals experienced operating losses, an increase from 16.5% in 2016. Also, 59% of providers reported lower absolute operating cash flow. The 2017 figure was the highest percentage in five years.

Data collection should be a key priority in nonprofit management
For nonprofits, “data” conjures up images of 10-page reporting requirements and grant deadlines. But to think of data as simply a grant requirement is taking data for granted -- it can do so much more.

Spam filters cost nonprofits nearly $30K
Spam filters could still be costing nonprofits an average of almost $30,000 because about one out of four email messages don’t make it to their intended inbox.

Corporate cash giving rises 5%
Cash gifts by some of the largest U.S. companies rose 5% last year, according to a new survey. Total giving, including products, grew 8%, led by overseas donations of drugs by large pharmaceutical companies. The top recipients of companies’ dollars were community causes, K-12 groups and higher education.
