CPA Voice: The email efficiency tricks you're missing

Written on Feb 29, 2024

Managing your email can be a cumbersome task. Randy Dean, a time management speaker and trainer, presented at the Ohio Accounting Show last fall and shared some of his tips on how to be more efficient when using Microsoft Outlook.

“Dean said professionals spend 25-50% of their day in their email, but most likely have never gotten formal training on the best way to use it,” writes Jessica Salerno-Shumaker, OSCPA senior content manager, in the January/February issue of CPA Voice. “And because email is so common, companies rarely take the time to train their people on how to be more efficient in the program.”

There are a lot of useful tools in Outlook that many do not know about. Dean encourages professionals to look into the program’s capabilities because there might be a tool you can integrate into your day-to-day work.

“Dean said to better manage your day, focus on using the five main functions of Microsoft Outlook together strategically: email, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes,” Salerno-Shumaker writes. “Understanding the full capabilities of each function can allow you to choose what works best for you.”
