The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, as the official start date of the nation’s 2024 tax filing season when the IRS will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns. The Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) is expected to announce the same start date soon.
With tax filing season rapidly approaching, the IRS also reminded employers that Jan. 31 is the deadline for submitting wage statements and forms for independent contractors with the government. New electronic filing requirements affect Forms W-2 that are required to be filed in 2024. Businesses that file 10 forms or more must now file W-2s and certain information returns electronically. See new electronic filing requirements for Forms W-2 for more information.
The Ohio Society of CPAs is also partnering with ODT to host a webinar on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. One hour of CPE will be provided – join us as we kick off the 2024 tax filing season by registering here.
The webinar will focus on updates to Ohio’s individual and school district income taxes. If you missed our article last week with other essential ODT resources, you can read the article here.
