The Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) recently announced extended service hours for the remainder of the income tax filing season (in addition to normal business hours). The ODT’s income/school district income tax phone lines at 800-282-1780 will be open until 7:00pm (instead of 5:00pm) on April 10 (Wednesday), April 11 (Thursday), April 12 (Friday) and April 15 (Monday).
Additionally, ODT will offer weekend hours on Saturday, April 13, from 9:00am to noon. The Saturday hours will include phone service and in-person assistance at ODT’s Welcome Center (4485 Northland Ridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43229) with income/school district income tax matters.
Recently, ODT also has issued several information releases. First, Information Release ST 2024-02, originally issued in 2003 when Ohio R.C. 5739.01(B)(3)(o) made personal care services subject to sales and use tax, was updated to provide guidance to service providers to assist them in complying with the tax law.
The second one, Information Release MNP 2024-02, covers the municipal net profit tax (MNPT) and advises taxpayers about a change to the net operating loss (NOL) deduction. It applies to those taxpayers that have made a valid election to opt-in with the tax commissioner to have the state administer the MNPT under Ohio R.C. 718.80.
This follows Information Release MNP 2024-01, issued on March 6, which covers the new extended tax return due date, the new apportionment election for remote workers, penalties, notices, rate certifications by municipalities and semiannual reports for municipalities.
Finally, ODT is hosting three webinar options to give an overview of the recent Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) law changes that took effect on Jan.1, 2024. Register below to find out how these CAT law changes affect your business or clients.
