Countless TV shows and movies sell the drama of a career in medicine or law. So when the film, “The Accountant” premiered this month, we wanted to see what prospective accountants thought about it.

The Ohio CPA Foundation’s Student Ambassador Taylor Gamble hosted a movie night for Ohio State University accounting students to check out Hollywood’s take on the profession.

The movie stars Ben Affleck as an accountant with a dangerous side gig working for cartel leaders, assassins and more. It opened to mixed reviews, with critics calling it everything from “confusing” to “enjoyable enough.” Aside from the obvious ethical issues, Gamble said she enjoyed the film’s storyline and seeing her future profession on the big screen.

“The movie definitely portrayed the profession in a light that isn’t usually seen,” Gamble said. “It’s usually not seen as an action packed career field, but it was cool to see the other side of accounting, like the forensics.”

She also said she enjoyed viewing it as someone with accounting knowledge herself, and understanding the little details that non-accountants might not notice. Check out our video above to hear their thoughts.
