OSCPA CEO reacts to Husted appointment

Written on Jan 17, 2025

OSCPA CEO & President Laura Hay expressed optimism to the news that Ohio Governor Mike DeWine appointed Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted to the United States Senate.

"From our vantage point, Lt. Governor Husted is a strong choice,” said Hay. “He has a long history of advocating for policies that align with the Society’s mission to strengthen the CPA profession and create a prosperous economic future in Ohio.”

During his time as Ohio’s lieutenant governor, Husted advocated for economic and workforce development initiatives such as TechCred, eliminated bureaucratic red tape by reducing administrative regulations and brought many businesses to the state through JobsOhio. OSCPA worked with Husted on the Small Business Advisory Council and he has appeared in several of our townhalls.

“The OSCPA looks forward to continuing to work with him in this new role on an economic agenda that will benefit all Ohioans,” Hay continued. “We stand ready to be a qualified resource as he advocates for tax policy that drives economic growth and advances a bold, commonsense agenda for regulatory reform at the federal level.”

Prior to his time as lieutenant governor, Husted served as Speaker of the Ohio House where he worked to reform the tax code by eliminating the tangible personal property tax and corporate franchise tax and replacing them with the CAT, and he cut Ohio’s income taxes by 21%. As Secretary of State, he made it easier to create a business and lowered the filing fee from $125 to $99.

“I am optimistic more opportunities for economic growth and collaboration lie ahead with Husted in the Senate,” Hay said.
