1. How Self Care Builds Better Teams Jim is the founder of 912, a company dedicated to coaching the benefits of teamwork by dramatically shifting the way individuals communicate, collaborate, and showcase leadership while pursuing their goals. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and former owner of the Laudato & Company, a CPA firm that advised individuals and small businesses for over 18 years. He enjoys connecting individuals to a larger goal and appreciates the process of personal development needed to move towards a better version of oneself. He is an authorized partner in DiSC and The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team. Jim has completed multiple leadership ventures to the Grand Canyon through telos, a world leader in strategy, leadership, and change. Over the years he has held community board related positions and likes to highlight his ability to make a positive impact and uses change as an opportunity to grow. “Bring people together at the human level with respect” is the centerpiece of what he does. Although trained in advising small business, Jim is moved by inspiring individuals, teams, and organizations to become better and LIBTIFY (leave it better than you found it), a philosophy which sets the stage for his purpose. Jim resides in Chardon with his wife Kelly and two great blessings. He is an avid runner and obtains his education outdoors. Justin Breidenbach

Ohio Professional Standards and Responsibilities Justin Breidenbach received his Masters of Accountancy from Bowling Green State University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner. Justin operates an accounting practice that provides general accounting, financial reporting, tax, advisory, and CFO services. Justin provides services to individuals and businesses in the fields of manufacturing, distribution, service, not-for-profit, and medical & adult-use cannabis. Justin began research, and providing consulting services, in the medical and adult-use cannabis industry in 2013. He works with cultivators, processors, and dispensaries on accounting and regulatory issues throughout the United States and international markets. Services provided to the medical and adult-use cannabis industry include: tax compliance, 280e analysis and cost allocation, research and development (R&D) tax credits and incentives, entity structures and relationships, internal controls, banking and financial services, state licensing requirements, financial reporting and budgeting, assistance with capital raises, and more. Justin formerly served as an Associate Professor of Accounting at Ohio Wesleyan University. He instructed courses on financial accounting, taxation, and audit & assurance services. Matt Hunt
3. The Future of Tax Incentives As ABGi’s National Director of CPA Relationships and Alliances, Matt leads a team responsible for partnering with CPA firms across the country to identify clients that can utilize various specialty tax incentives. Matt works with hundreds of CPA firms across the country and led the firm’s response to Section 174 amortization and its technical implications for ABGi clients. He teaches CPE classes relating to the R&D tax credit, 179D deduction, Section 174 amortization, and has presented on the Future of Tax Incentives. Matt has also spoken at Morgan Lewis’ Research & Development Tax Credit Symposium. Matt has over 20 years in the accounting industry, starting at Grant Thornton, and after leaving, built, and led Internal Audit Departments in both publicly traded and private organizations with revenues ranging from $3 billion to $125 billion. Matt is a CPA and CFE and earned his BS in Finance and Accounting from Indiana University and his MBA in Financial Management and Control from DePaul University.
Gregory Saul
4. OSCPA Legislative Update Greg is a graduate of Capital University Law School (cum laude, 2009) and Knox College (magna cum laude, 2003) with experience in the legal division of the Ohio Auditor of State’s office and at the Ohio Supreme Court. He previously served as Legislative Aide to former state Senate President Pro Tempore Jeff Jacobson from 2003 through 2008. In addition, he holds an Ohio agent’s license for property and casualty insurance, plus life & health insurance, and variable annuities. Prior to joining the Society in 2013, Greg worked at the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) as its Member Benefits Program Manager. As OSCPA’s Director of Tax Policy, he is responsible for lobbying state legislators and regulatory officials in the executive branch on tax and general business issues. He is a native of Napoleon who currently resides in Columbus’ German Village.
Mary Adams

Sustainable Value Creation - People, Planet, Profit Mary Adams is a consultant, speaker and practitioner of intangible capitalism which focuses on the long-term pursuit of both profits and prosperity. Her current work is focused in three communities that she helped create: The Exit Planning Exchange that brings long-term thinking to the private company market. The Integrated Reporting U.S. Community that brings long-term thinking to public companies. And Smarter-Companies, a specialty consulting community that provides methodologies and tools to support intangible capitalism. Mary is the co-author of Intangible Capital: Putting Knowledge to Work in the 21st Century Organization. Prior to starting her consulting firm in 1999, she spent 14 years as a high-risk lender in the U.S. and Latin America at Citicorp and Sanwa Business Credit. She received a BA Political Science from Rice University and a Master of International Management from the Thunderbird School (now part of Arizona State).
Christopher Smyke
6. Multistate Tax Update Chris is a senior tax staff in Plante Moran’s state and local tax group. His focus includes federal and multi-state taxation and he advises clients on a variety of state tax issues including income and franchise, sales and use, and municipal income tax. Smyke received his Masters of Science in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed his undergraduate education in Economics and History at The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the accounting field he worked in state politics in the office of Lt. Governor Mary Taylor and later as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Ohio Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association. Chris resides in Powell, Ohio with his wife and two children.

7. What's Going On at the FASB? Tom is a nationally recognized authority on accounting and auditing topics. He has been selected by his peers to serve on numerous national and international standard-setting committees, and is service line leader for Barnes Dennig’s accounting and audit practice. Accounting Today named Tom to the list of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting. This honor recognizes Tom’s leadership of the Center for Plain English Accounting, a key program of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Tom is a member of the inaugural Private Company Council, which will work with the Financial Accounting Standards Board to determine if and how U.S. GAAP should be adapted for private companies. He also serves as the representative of the United States on the International Financial Reporting Standards’ Small- and Medium-sized Entity Implementation Group, which gives him a front-row seat to the ongoing efforts to merge national and international accounting standards. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has selected Tom to serve as the Technical Director of the AICPA’s Center for Plain English Accounting (a national accounting and auditing resource center for CPA firms). Tom previously served on the advisory-only FASB Private Company Financial Reporting Committee, and he served a three-year term on the AICPA’s Technical Issues Committee. Ben Ayers
9. Economic Update Ben Ayers is a Senior Economist with Nationwide Economics, supporting the company’s forecasting and macroeconomic analysis functions. Ben’s responsibilities include forecasting enterprise business drivers to assist the company’s strategic planning. He currently authors a weekly economic review and outlook as well as commentary pieces on key economic topics. Ben is a frequent presenter of Nationwide Economics’ forecasts and analyses to internal and external audiences. He has been quoted in multiple media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, MarketWatch, Barron’s, and The Associated Press. Prior to joining Nationwide in August 2011, Ben served as an Assistant Vice President at Citi Hedge Fund Services North America. Ben holds a Master of Science in Economics from the Ohio State University, specializing in applied economic analysis.
