You can’t open a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Accounting Today or SEC website without seeing a headline for ESG.  There are many forces and trends that are bringing ESG to the forefront of today’s market. The goal of this course is to provide you with a basic understanding of ESG, what’s changing in the marketplace, strategies for how to integrate it into your organization and why it’s critical to move up the learning curve NOW.

Speakers

Mary Adams
Mary Adams is a consultant, speaker and practitioner of intangible capitalism which focuses on the long-term pursuit of both profits and prosperity. Her current work is focused in three communities that she helped create: The Exit Planning Exchange that brings long-term thinking to the private company market. The Integrated Reporting U.S. Community that brings long-term thinking to public companies. And Smarter-Companies, a specialty consulting community that provides methodologies and tools to support intangible capitalism. Mary is the co-author of Intangible Capital: Putting Knowledge to Work in the 21st Century Organization. Prior to starting her consulting firm in 1999, she spent 14 years as a high-risk lender in the U.S. and Latin America at Citicorp and Sanwa Business Credit. She received a BA Political Science from Rice University and a Master of International Management from the Thunderbird School (now part of Arizona State).
Marcy Twete
Marcy Twete is a recognized leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability for multinational Fortune 500 companies, and has a background both broad and deep in ESG (environmental, social, governance) factors, ethical decision-making, marketing and communications. She is the founder and CEO Marcy Twete Consulting where she advises corporations, nonprofit organizations and their investors on environmental, social and governance risks and reputation management. In addition to leading her consulting practice, Marcy also co-hosts Office Baggage, a podcast that tackles topics for women in business that are all too often brushed under the office rug. In June 2020, she will launch Table Stakes: The Podcast for Responsible, Sustainable Businesses & Leaders, discussing the issues of sustainability with forward-thinking leaders to forecast the future of responsible business. Marcy is a proud Trustee at the Chicago Architecture Center, and a former member of the Boards of Directors for Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana and Step Up. She received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the College of Saint Benedict and her MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She resides in Chicago with her husband Charlie, her tabby cat Betsey and her terrier mix Pearl. LONG BIO Marcy Twete is a recognized leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability for multinational Fortune 500 companies, and has a background both broad and deep in nonprofit fundraising, ESG (environmental, social, governance) factors, marketing and communications. Graduating from Kellogg’s Executive MBA program in 2018, Marcy calls herself a CSR leader turned “finance geek,” and a passionate advocate for the intersection of societal value and responsible practices across sectors. From 2014-2018, Marcy led sustainability and corporate responsibility at ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel and mining company. There, she led a team responsible for developing the first Integrated Report in the steel industry in the Western Hemisphere, and was part of the global team responsible for creating ArcelorMittal’s industry-leading sustainability program centered around its 10 sustainable development outcomes. Since 2018, Marcy has advised corporations, nonprofit organizations and P.E./V.C. portfolio companies on environmental, social and governance risks and reputation management. Recent projects include revenue sustainability implementation in the nonprofit sector, crisis communications strategies, expansion feasibility plans, and an integrated reporting roadmap for a Fortune 500 professional services leader. During this time, Marcy also completed a long-term engagement with social sector data and insights leader, Mission Measurement as Managing Director for the company’s corporate services division, responsible for go-to-market strategy for the company’s patent-pending social outcomes evaluator, the Impact Genome® Project. In addition to leading her consulting practice, Marcy also co-hosts Office Baggage, a podcast that tackles topics for women in business that are all too often brushed under the office rug. In June 2020, she will launch Table Stakes: The Podcast for Responsible, Sustainable Businesses & Leaders, discussing the issues of sustainability with forward-thinking leaders to forecast the future of responsible business. Marcy’s background also includes nearly a decade in the nonprofit sector leading and advising annual and capital campaigns ranging from $3 million to $4 billion. She also founded a women’s career development initiative that attracted more than 1 million women to its services from 2012-2014 and is the author of the book You Know Everybody! A Career Girl’s Guide to Building a Network That Works.
