The OSCPA team was saddened to learn of Past Chair Jim Haubrock’s passing on Aug. 9, 2025.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Jim’s family, friends and former colleagues,” said OSCPA President and CEO Laura A. Hay, CPA, CAE. “He touched the lives of so many through his leadership and volunteer efforts during his many years of service to the Ohio Society of CPAs. He has left a legacy of volunteerism and professionalism. While we will miss his dedication to the profession, we will miss his special smile and presence even more so.”
Haubrock was a retired shareholder at Clark Schaefer Hackett & Co. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati, earned his CPA license in 1981 and became an OSCPA member in 1982. What followed was an exceptional 43 years of membership in, and even more importantly, a partnership with the OSCPA, encompassing 54 different volunteer endeavors between 1987 and 2020.
From various Dayton chapter roles, including president, to serving on specialized committees such as the Health Care Committee and the Public Relations Advisory Committee, Haubrock gave generously of his time and expertise. The Thought Leaders group and Committee of Fifty both benefited from his leadership skills and professional insight. He joined the Executive Board in 2004 before eventually serving as OSCPA Chair for the 2007 – 2008 year.
Even after his years on the Executive Board, Haubrock remained actively involved in OSCPA leadership, continuing to serve on myriad committees, helping guide the organization through challenge and change.
Haubrock’s efforts on the Centennial Fundraising Campaign spoke to his deep commitment to the profession’s future. He was key to Clark Shaefer Hackett’s support of The Ohio Society, advocating for the CSH staff to become members, volunteer their time and strive to become thought leaders at the state and national levels.
Haubrock was passionate about audit quality initiatives. He chaired the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center and was instrumental in founding OSCPA’s Employee Benefit Plan Audit Conference to bring in national speakers for a broader audience.
Beyond the OSCPA, Haubrock also served as Chair of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Executive Committee.
Even in retirement, Haubrock’s service continued, serving as the Vice Chair of the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council.
Haubrock’s warm nature will never be forgotten. OSCPA team members recalled a visit to the CSH office when he inquired upon their arrival: had the team brought donuts? On the next visit, they did indeed bring the donuts, eliciting Haubrock’s signature smile and a big laugh.
Within his Dayton community, Jim was an active member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the Parish Council, including six years as Parish Council President.
He was also an Eagle Scout and a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America.
Haubrock is survived by his wife of 46 years, Matina “Tina” Haubrock, children Michael (Amanda) Haubrock and Christina (Socrates) Manuel, and grandchildren Demetri and Yianni Haubrock and Sophia Manuel, brother Bob and many nieces and nephews.
A service honoring Jim’s life was held Aug. 14 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton.
