Sales Tax Rates and Rules Changes Skyrocket Across States in 2025, Says Vertex Report 

In the first half of 2025, states made 408 sales tax rate changes and new rates – a 24% increase compared to the first half of 2024. 

Ohio Department of Taxation reminder: 2nd quarter severance tax deadline is Aug. 15 

DOT is reminding all severance tax practitioners and taxpayers that second quarter 2025 severance tax return and payment are due Aug. 15, 2025. Severance tax returns and payments are required to be submitted electronically via the Ohio Business Gateway. Severance accounts will transition to the new OH|TAX system on Nov. 12.
