Wenstrup selected to join the House Ways and Means Committee

U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Cincinnati, has been chosen to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee.

“I am honored to serve as an advocate for Ohio on the Ways and Means Committee,” Wenstrup said in a statement. “I am eager to work with Chairman Brady and the Committee to fight for the doctor-patient relationship in health care, improve our programming to help more people rise from poverty, expand economic opportunities for all, and advance America’s free enterprise leadership in the world.”

While he will not be directly replacing U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi, who departed Congress in January, on the committee, he will help maintain Ohio’s representation on the committee, which oversees taxation, trade, health care and more. U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, a Republican from Wadsworth, also serves on the committee, but will step down at the end of this term as he continues his run for U.S. Senate.

Wenstrup began serving this week, according to the Columbus Dispatch, and may have been selected in part due to his medical degree, as the committee takes on health care and other health-related issues.

“Dr. Wenstrup is an excellent choice to join our Committee. A decorated war veteran, small business owner, and doctor, Brad brings proven dedication to our country and invaluable experience to the team,” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) said in a statement.

Greg Saul, Esq. CAE, tax policy director for the Ohio Society of CPAs, agreed the selection is great news for Ohioans.

“The Society’s Federal Tax Committee looks forward to working with Congressman Wenstrup in his new capacity to promote competitive, pro-growth tax policies,” he said.
