Ohio reminds taxpayers: August sales and use tax returns due Sept. 23

Written on Sep 19, 2025

Ohio taxpayers are reminded that monthly sales and use tax returns for August 2025 must be filed by Sept. 23, 2025. The Ohio Department of Taxation requires all active accounts to submit returns for each reporting period, regardless of whether taxable sales occurred. Timely filing helps businesses avoid penalties and ensures compliance with state tax obligations.

The department offers two primary options for filing. Most taxpayers file electronically through the state’s online tax portal, tax.ohio.gov/OHTAX. In addition, businesses holding county vendor’s licenses, identified by license numbers beginning with 01–88, may use the TeleFile system by calling 800-697-0440. Both methods are designed to streamline reporting and improve efficiency.

For those with questions about the filing process or general sales and use tax requirements, the department provides support through its website, tax.ohio.gov, as well as a dedicated help line at 888-405-4039. Assistance is available to help practitioners and taxpayers navigate filing obligations, stay up to date on requirements, and avoid common mistakes.

By emphasizing electronic filing and providing multiple avenues for support, Ohio continues to encourage accuracy and convenience in sales and use tax compliance. Businesses are encouraged to prepare filings in advance of the deadline to ensure smooth submission and reduce the risk of last-minute issues.
