The Ohio Society of CPAs was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Past OSCPA Chair Peter Arris Margaritis on March 20. He was an OSCPA member for more than 26 years.
Margaritis believed in and was heavily involved in the Ohio CPA Foundation, not only as a contributor, but through the creation of the Clarke Price Accounting Scholarship and the development of the OSCPA Centennial Campaign.
Margaritis was known for teaching and leading with compassion and humor. OSCPA staff noted that every interaction with him brought smiles and laughter, calling him a captivating speaker.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pete Margaritis,” OSCPA President & CEO Laura Hay, CPA, said. “His passion, dedication, and unwavering support for our profession left an indelible mark on our organization and the many lives he touched. As a former Chair of the OSCPA Board, supporter of the Foundation’s outreach to students and an inspiring speaker, he was a true leader who gave so much to this community. His legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing the profound impact he had on so many.”
Margaritis was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on Dec. 6, 1960. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1982 and remained a lifelong Wildcat.
He earned his master’s degree in accounting from Case Western University.
Margaritis’ family said he excelled at connecting with people and helping others find their ability to do so as a speaker, a teacher and a coach. He published three books on how to use improvisation in the business world, providing people with tools to help navigate change and improve interactions in the workplace.
Margaritis is survived by his wife, Mary, and son, Stephen.
Services were held in Lexington, Kentucky, on March 26.
