Ann Gabriel, Ph.D., who was recently selected to join the State Audit Committee, following a recommendation from The Ohio Society of CPAs, says she is “very much excited” about the role.
“It’s a great opportunity to serve, which I’m really looking forward to,” she said. “And, I’m looking forward to understanding more about how the state government operates. This will kind of offer an inside look.”
The State Audit Committee is a five-member committee that helps the governor and director of the Office of Budget Management in the areas of financial reporting, internal controls and risk assessment, audit processes and compliance with laws, rules and regulations.
“It’s essentially like an audit committee at any company,” she said. “We’ll be working a lot with the state auditors and reviewing the results of internal audits of the state department.
“With government entities, there are whole different accounting regulations for government and not-for-profit organizations. There is a bit of a nuance to it. Hopefully I’ll be able to provide some insight.”
Gabriel is a professor at Ohio University and serves as chair of the Provost’s Women’s Commission, and has served on the Faculty Senate and Greek Life Committee at OU. She also serves on OSCPA’s Political Action Committee Board of Trustees. Previously, she lent her expertise to the OSCPA Executive Board of Directors and Professional Ethics Committee and chaired OU’s School of Accountancy.
“I feel very honored that the Society recommended me for the position and that the committee who put my name forward would have confidence in me to represent the Society.”
