OSCPA on July 19 hosted a fun night of networking and baseball for Columbus CPAs of all ages at a Clippers game.
“This is my first event with OSCPA,” said attendee Leon Joseph, CPA, of SS&C Hedge Fund Services. “This is pretty nice – I’ve been meaning to come to a ball game for a while and it’s good to meet a lot of new people. The networking is great.”
Joseph came with his co-worker and had met a few other people at the event previously, but overall was able to make several new connections.
It was easy to make connections at the game, thanks to a fun round of networking bingo. Participants mingled with each other, trying to check off boxes such as “has a pet,” “can speak a different language” and “went to school outside of Ohio,” which helped them learn a lot about each other in a short amount of time. Once every box had a signature, participants could hand in their sheet for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.
The Clippers ultimately lost to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 7-3, but attendees who recently received their CPA certification were recognized by the team on the jumbo screen and fans still enjoyed the atmosphere and gorgeous July weather.
“I was actually trying to tell one of my other co-workers who got her CPA late last year to come out and check out this event,” said Joseph. “After I took the CPA exam, I was looking for organizations to join and considered the benefits of becoming a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs. So, so far, this has been really nice.”
