Columbus City Council may exempt some nonprofits from ticket tax

Written on Dec 12, 2018

Columbus City Council is working on a ticket tax exemption for events put on by nonprofit groups unaffiliated with the arts.

Organizations such as Experience Columbus, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the All American Quarter Horse Congress would not see their tickets taxed to support groups under the Greater Columbus Arts Council umbrella.

Council President Shannon Hardin said the tax, if passed, would remain at 5%. Council is creating a list of nonprofits that would be exempt.

It is unclear how the exemptions would change the financial forecast for how much the tax would raise for arts organizations in the city.
