Accounting Career Day sparked student’s accounting career

Accounting Career Day at Cleveland State University was the day that Ana Condric decided she was going to pursue an accounting career.  

“That's when I first learned about accounting,” said Condric, adding that she was able to learn about career opportunities, growth potential and the CPA licensure.   

“I really enjoyed what I did [at the event] and thought that accounting was a good fit personality-wise for me,” she said. 

Condric has since graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, completed five internships and is now a MAcc student at BGSU. 

“I think high school is the most influential part of a student's journey, and they are deciding what they want to do and who they want to be,” said Condric. “So, it was key for me to hear about accounting then because if I did later, I probably wouldn't have changed majors.” 

Condric has continued to immerse herself in the profession. While an undergraduate student, she joined multiple organizations including Beta Alpha Psi, an international honors society for financial information students and eventually became vice president of the chapter.  

“Now I'm second-year vice president, and I love helping accounting students who are younger than me figure out what they want to do, if they like public versus private and everywhere in between,” she said. 

After graduating, Condric will begin as a tax associate at Plante Moran’s Cleveland office in the fall. Currently, she is completing the CPA Exams and looking forward to acquiring her CPA license.  

Accounting Career Day at Kent State University on April 12 marked the start of the 2024 - 2025 programs and the 17th year of Accounting Career Days.  

Over 60 students attended the event which included an introduction from Don McFall, adjunct FYE instructor at Kent State, a student panel and a panel of representatives from BMF, Parker, Rea and CLA. 

Kent State also awarded a $500 scholarship to a student who will be attending the university this fall and majoring in accounting.  

This year, for the first time, The Ohio CPA Foundation received a generous donation from the Deloitte Foundation to support Accounting Career Days for the 2024-2025 school year. This gift will enhance the program so more young talent can learn about accounting.   

“The Deloitte Foundation’s support of Accounting Career Days can help the workforce of the future discover new education and career pathways,” said Mark Johnson, Columbus managing partner, Deloitte LLP. “It is important to help these students, who are the next generation of business leaders, build the skills they will likely need to aspire to career success.”
