OSCPA Executive Board Member Ebonie Jackson, CPA/CITP, MBA, CGMA, has been named recipient of the Impact Award – Local in the 2020 AICPA Outstanding CPA in Government Awards.
Jackson, who is director of administrative services at Lucas County, Ohio, Children Services, joined OSCPA’s executive board in 2018.
We contacted Ebonie this week to get a comment on the honor, and she mentioned that – because of the pandemic – she was unable to accept the award in person or make any speeches. So we’re giving her the floor to do so here:
“I am so thankful for this honor and the opportunities and mentorship I have had from strong senior leaders over the course of my career. Starting with a special thanks to my parents, William and Willie Mae Hughey, who were my very first mentors and employers. Working for their law and consulting firms as a youth shaped my work ethic. I also want to thank Sandra Richtermeyer, former Board Chair for the Ohio Society of CPAs for being such a strong leader and role model and for nominating me for this award. I would also like to thank the Robin Reese and the Lucas County Children Services Board of Directors, leadership team, staff and families; especially the Administrative Services team who work hard to ensure that they help support caseworkers in their mission to protect children & support families every day.
“I am also thankful for organizations and institutions like Florida A&M University, the AICPA, OSCPA, the Ohio CPA Foundation, and NABA who have exposed me to multiple committees, taskforces, board, and council assignments in my profession. Because of these organizations, I have had exposure to leaders in the profession who have helped shape my professional acumen and problem-solving approaches.
“One of my biggest responsibilities and joys is working with my husband, Richard, to raise the next generation of impactful leaders. I hope my sons Jacob and Caleb will see their parent’s hard work and accomplishments and will be inspired to be future accounting and finance leaders.”
