CPA of Ohio: Emily Stout

by Jessica Salerno | Aug 10, 2023
This week’s CPA of Ohio is Emily Stout, a candidate in the Master of Accountancy program at Ohio University.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In the summertime, I enjoy gardening. I like to grow sunflowers, marigolds and other flowers, but it's pretty challenging. I also like fishing - particularly for small fish that eventually get used to bait fish. I also like baking which takes up a lot of my time now since I created Creation Cookies, my own gourmet cookie business.

Do you have any mentors in your life that have been impactful to you?

Mrs. Myers, my high school accounting teacher, has been so impactful in my life. She's very encouraging and always wanted me to do well in accounting. She was also the advisor for Key Club, which is like a community service organization, so she really introduced me to both of my passions. Another person that I look up to is Jim Kalklosch. He does a lot of work around the community, but he also hosts the Kalklosch Craft Show twice a year and I've been volunteering for those since my sophomore year of high school. The shows help give back to the community since the vendors are able to make money and he raises money for scholarships for high school seniors. I think what he does for the community is great and it's really inspiring.
