IBISWorld reports 10 most profitable US industries

IBISWorld, an industry market research suite, reported the 10 most profitable industries in the country.

These industries each generate average profit margins above 35.0% of revenue.

The most profitable overarching categories are finance and insurance, real estate and leasing, information, and manufacturing.

Under finance and insurance, the top industries include industrial banks (expected to reach 51.8% of annual revenue in 2019); trusts and estates (expected to reach 51.0%); stock and community exchanges (expected to reach 49.5%); portfolio management (expected to reach 39.6%); and venture capital and principal training (expected to reach 39.5%).

As for real estate, rental and leasing, there are three sub-sectors. These are commercial leasing (average operator’s profit margins reaching over 50.8% of 2019 revenue); land leasing (expected to be 46.5% of revenue); and storage and warehouse leasing (expected to be 41.3%).

The information sector includes the database, storage and backup software publishing industry. The average profit margin for the year is estimated to be 41.3%.

Finally, the manufacturing sector includes the cigarette and tobacco manufacturing industry. This sector usually generates below average profit margins at 8.2%, but the cigarette and tobacco industry is an exception with an expected 40.7% profit margin.
