Canopy, a company specializing in tax practice software, released their new mobile app on April 10. According to a recent Accounting Today article, here is the rundown of what you need to know.

1. What does it do?

  • With Canopy’s app, “users will be able to access personal, team and client files directly from their mobile device.” These files include information such as “contact information, client records and tax documents.” Additionally, mobile app users can also “view information, share files, input details, add new contracts and modify records” from anywhere; it’s all in the palm of their hands!

2. Where can I get it?

  • The app is compatible with both Apple iOS and Google Android devices, so it is available on iTunes and Google Play in addition to working with Canopy’s already-present online software.

3. What kinds of features does it have?

  • File-sharing
    • Allows “practitioners to share files and communicate via phone, text and email”
  • Security
    • Two-factor authentication via a follow-up email upon logging in to the app
    • Option of passcode protection, touch ID or face ID for verification
    • “firms can keep track of all their connected mobile devices, revoke access and do data purges if a device is lost or stolen” and the data present is protected through encryption.

4. Are there any plans for the app in the future?

  • Yes! Some features Canopy said they are hoping to add include “document scanning, task management document scanning, and dashboards.”
