A renewed focus and world events have created a surge in member interest in OSCPA’s annual Health Care Conference next week.

Tiffany Crosby, CPA, CGMA, MBA, OSCPA executive director of learning and development, said attendees will have the opportunity to connect with experts and stay current on the topics within this evolving sector.

“The health care industry when you think about it, they’re really at ground zero,” Crosby said. “Having to deal with the pandemic from a standpoint of providing care but also having to deal with all of the other issues that employers have to deal with like revenue models and business models being disrupted.”

This year’s virtual conference will feature a variety of speakers, three of whom are from BDO USA: Chris Cooper, MHA, MIM, RN, Deb Sheehan and Jim Watson, MBA.

Cooper, who is a managing director for the BDO Center for Health Care Excellence and Innovation, brings more than 20 years of experience. He currently leads BDO’s initiatives to help organizations enhance their experience, reduce costs, eliminate inefficiencies and streamline workflows.

Prior to BDO, Cooper worked as a principal for Blue Cottage of CannonDesign and has experience at the Health Industries Advisory Practice at PwC. In addition, he has also held positions at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and at Sg2, an international health care intelligence, research and consulting organization in Chicago.

Sheehan, who is also a managing director for BDO, will bring three decades of experience to the conversation. Currently, she works with the firm’s advisory practice to help organizations achieve optimal operational and financial performance outcomes.

Throughout her career, Sheehan has been recognized as an industry expert and her work has been featured by organizations such as Building Design & Construction and Health Facility Management as well as The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Forbes and Modern Healthcare.

Watson, who is also presenting next week, is a health care advisory partner with more than 30 years of senior management experience in the sector.

“This is someone who knows about the nuances of managed care plans, value-based pricing and all the changes that are happening in the health care arena,” Crosby said. “He has industry perspective; he’s been on both sides.”

Prior to BDO, Watson worked as a partner of PBC Advisors and has also served as regional vice president for CIGNA Healthcare, vice president, medical delivery systems, for United Healthcare, a corporate director of managed care at Advocate Healthcare and AVP finance and managed care at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Chicago.

“We’re bringing all kinds of perspectives and real on-the-ground experience,” said Crosby. “When I think about that, part of what I want people to understand is that this is an opportunity to connect with experts who honestly it would be hard for them to get in their schedule.”
