Society thanks DeWine Administration

The Ohio Society of CPAs on March 26 sent a letter thanking the DeWine Administration for its actions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The text is below, and you can also view the PDF version.

Dear Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted:

On behalf of the 27,000 members of The Ohio Society of CPAs, I extend the CPA profession’s heartfelt thanks for your strong leadership during this very trying COVID-19 pandemic.  Your collective efforts to keep Ohioans safe, and at the same time do all you can to support our state’s employers, workers and other citizens, are remarkable.  Your guidance on key reforms contained in HB 197, in tandem with The Ohio General Assembly’s quick and decisive action, will allow the State to push out tax filing and payment deadlines to July 15 without penalty or interest.  These changes will allow Ohioans to use those funds now to purchase essential needs, and to focus their time and energy on keeping their businesses going and families fed.

OSCPA fully supports your top priority of protecting the health and safety of all Ohioans, including slowing the spread of COVID-19.  We know that requiring non-essential Ohio businesses to close, and non-essential workers and others to stay at home, are painful yet necessary steps to slow the spread of this virus.  Your concurrent efforts to help Ohioans – including business owners and employees with continued access to essential services and unemployment program adjustments – have been critical.  Of note, we particularly value your support of enabling businesses to continue to have access to key advisors, including Ohio CPAs.  Now more than ever, business owners need guidance on how best to keep their doors open – or reopen if they have been forced to close – and take care of their employees.

While the pandemic likely will get worse before it gets better, we are confident that Ohio is in good hands under your leadership.  Please know that you have our commitment to assist in any way we can to get our state through this crisis and back stronger than ever.

Sincerely,

Scott D. Wiley, CAE
President & CEO
