Certified follows aspiring CPAs while they prepare for and take the various sections of the CPA exam. This is Thaddeus Eichorn’s story, starting in August of 2019. Check back each week for an update on his journey and find out if he earns those three coveted letters after his name. Read more of his story here.

Days before he took the second section of the CPA exam, Thaddeus Eichorn still didn’t know if he had passed his first section of FAR.

Then the day before he was set to take his next section, Audit, Eichorn received his passing score of 94 for the Financial Accounting & Reporting section.

“I was not expecting that,” Eichorn said. “I thought I passed but I thought it might be close. So now I'm not too worried about not being able to pass, just as long as I put the time in studying and I kind of have a feel for what I need to do now.”

Knowing he passed FAR was a confidence booster going into taking Audit, and he said he feels good about the second section. Studying has taken up more time than he anticipated, however, and said it’s taking longer to get through certain parts of the coursework.

Right now, he’s studying in the morning and then doing something else in the afternoon, or vice versa, because he said he can’t spend a whole eight consecutive hours studying.

“I've tried it and it just wouldn't work,” he said. “Because by the fifth hour, you're just spinning your wheels.”

Next up he plans to take Business Environmental Concepts and is happy to be halfway through the sections and confident in his studying process.

“I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. “And now I can start planning ahead.”
