Pandemic roundup: State officials take action

Recent news regarding coronavirus policies and legislation:  

  • Gov. Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 108 and Senate Bill 109 that deliver $682 million in business grants and other assistance. SB 108 makes available grants for bars, restaurants and lodging businesses and SB 109 provides for a variety of departments.  These are two of the four bills introduced in March to distribute more than $2 billion in federal COVID relief money. House Bill 167 addressing rent and utility assistance was signed last week and the final proposal on funding for schools has yet to be passed.  
  • Gov. Mike DeWine announced Ohio will stop participating in the federal government's supplemental benefits program, which gives an extra $300 a week to the unemployed. This will end on June 26.  
  • Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced new forms for employers to report workers who don’t return and continue to collect unemployment during the coronavirus pandemic. The forms can be found on ohiomeansjobs.com and unemploymenthelp.ohio.gov.
