CPA Voice: Neurodivergent individuals may help ease talent crisis

Written on Apr 20, 2023

There might be a solution to the talent crisis that leverages the skillsets of those who often get overlooked.

“Neurodiversity is the range of differences in individual brain function,” writes Anthony Pacilio, Vice President of Neurodiverse Solutions at CAI, in the March/April issue of CPA Voice. “Unfortunately, this population has been widely overlooked for employment opportunities and remains one of the largest unemployed and underemployed groups of people by as much as 30 to 40% according to the University of Connecticut.”

There are a multitude of benefits to hiring neurodivergent individuals - for both the employees and the organization as a whole. Recognizing more voices allows for strong and unique perspectives to be shared.

“The bottom line is that everyone deserves a life filled with meaningful work that makes a difference,” writes Pacilio. “Beyond the obvious positive effects, organizations with neurotypical and neurodivergent employees see innovation and productivity spike because of the new ideas and processes that come from these blended teams.”
