CPA Voice: The new CPA Exam sets profession up for success

Written on Feb 16, 2023

The new exam structure is “a joint effort of NASBA and AICPA to transform the CPA licensure model to recognize the changing skills and competencies accounting requires today and will require in the future,” writes Jessica Salerno-Shumaker, OSCPA senior content manager, in the January/February issue of CPA voice.

In terms of preparation, candidates should start utilizing resources to learn about the changes and familiarize themselves with it. However, candidates should understand that these changes will ultimately benefit them and prepare them for the changing profession.

“According to Mike Decker, AICPA vice president of CPA examination and pipeline, it’s important to remember that the CPA Exam is a licensure exam, not a graduation exam,” writes Salerno-Shumaker. “The emphasis is not on whether someone has passed their required college courses but has the capability to work in this challenging business environment.”
