Nonprofits seek to address the marketing technology gap in 2023

The 2022-2023 Nonprofit Digital Marketing Benchmark Report reveals the strategies used by over 100 nonprofits in 2022 and their plans for improvement in 2023. One of the most striking findings in the report was that three out of five (60%) respondents did not have a digital marketing plan. 

The report was released by TechSoup and Tapp Network. 

Key findings: 

  • Websites: Half of all nonprofit organizations plan to redesign their websites within the next year, an increase from 43% in 2020. 

  • Social Media: 84% of nonprofits use Facebook for social media activities, and most achieve success if they fundraise on the platform. 

  • Content Marketing: Nearly 70% of nonprofits are not blogging, missing the opportunity to leverage content to improve search engine optimization (SEO) and site traffic. 

  • Email Marketing: 73% of nonprofits do not have a defined email marketing strategy; 64% do not take advantage of email automation tools 

  • Marketing Technology: 54% of nonprofits do not use a customer relationship management system (CRM) or automation tools to effectively engage their donors, volunteers, and members.
