Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are all extremely important and working in DEI is beneficial for everyone including yourself.
“What makes humans unique is the ability to think — and to think about what we are thinking. Yet, that skill is only as useful as a person wants it to be,” says Bob Batchelor, communications strategist, in the September/October issue of CPA Voice.
Batchelor explains there is always a shock when people find out that he is involved in DEI as a white male, but once they realize the benefits and learn more about what is done in DEI, they are supportive of his involvement. He says it’s not about any recognition or applause, it’s about making a difference and opening your mind and others’ to questioning what they know. This takes time but it is worth it, and anyone can contribute.
“We all have the power to create a better world, even when those around us don’t understand our choices,” he says.
