Ohio Department of Taxation’s Virtual Tax Academy is back in session

The Ohio Virtual Tax Academy (OVTA) is opening its digital doors again to welcome business owners, tax professionals, and any other interested parties who want to learn the latest Ohio tax news and insights from the Ohio Department of Taxation. 

The online event is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2022, 8:30 – 11:30am. The academy will cover three core tax topics: 

Personal & School District Income Tax Updates 

This session will cover updates for personal and school district income tax for tax years 2022 and 2023 and beyond. These updates include legislative and rule updates, sports gaming, forms updates, and filing season reminders. 

Pass-Through Entity Tax Update 

This session will cover updates and guidance for pass-through entity (PTE) and fiduciary income tax. These include Ohio’s PTE SALT Cap legislation, tax credit updates, rate changes, forms updates, and PTE and fiduciary guidance. 

Sales Tax -- Applications to Construction Contracts & Exemptions for Motor Vehicles 

This session is a high-level look at how the Ohio sales tax addresses construction contracts and exemptions for motor vehicles. It will include a discussion of the classification of property, the impact of recent court decisions, and best practices for contractors. Additionally, this session will cover the requirements needed to qualify motor vehicles for sales tax exemptions and the processes in which the Department of Taxation and taxpayers work together for compliance.
