ODT ready to receive employers’ W-2s and 1099-Rs

ODT has made available for upload the application for employers’/payroll providers’ W-2 files and retirement system administrator’s 1099-R files that are required to be electronically submitted on the Ohio Business Gateway. The W-2 file must be submitted using one of two options:  

  • The new electronic W-2 filing method, called the Simplified W-2 Upload format uses a CSV (comma-separated values) file format that can be used to create a W-2 file to electronically submit on the Gateway, OR 
  • The EFW2 layout used by the Social Security Administration, with certain modifications for the Department. 

The 1099-R file must be submitted using the 1099-R layout required by the IRS in Publication 1220.

The due date of the W-2/1099 submission, the annual reconciliations (IT 941, IT 942 fourth quarter/annual, & SD 141) have all been extended for this year to March 2. However, the filing extension does not include an extension to pay tax due, and statutory interest will accrue on all late payments.
