HW&Co celebrates 30 years by giving back

What started as a small organization in 1990 has developed into one of the country’s top CPA firms. In 2020, as HW&Co celebrates its 30-year anniversary, it is hosting a year-long series of giving titled “Gifts of 30.”

“We wanted to take this 30th anniversary and go all-out to create more brand recognition, awareness and also let people know about different organizations in the community,” said CEO and president Brandon Miller, CPA, CGMA.

Throughout the entire year, HW&Co, an Ohio CPA proud organization, is planning to make donations to different nonprofit organizations in their community. In January, they set a goal to donate 30 bookbags full of children’s books to Kids Book Bank Cleveland, where employees and clients alike brought in their favorite children’s books for kids in low-income families.

“We planned on doing 30 bags of books and ended up donating 37 backpacks and collected 493 books,” Miller said.

Throughout February, HW&Co is collecting tote bags of pet treats for the Cleveland Animal Protective League, and in March they plan to donate non-perishable food items to United Way of Lake Country.

“Throughout the years there are a number of different things we tried to do as a firm,” said Miller. “Not only diversify into different industries but get more involved in the community, more specifically in the nonprofit area.”

Miller credits the idea for Gifts of 30 to Phyllis Sossi, Director of Marketing, Sarah Lehmann, Marketing Coordinator, and the rest of the Fun committee, a group of individuals who get together to brainstorm activities to do and organizations to donate to.

Gifts of 30 has been an rewarding process, said HR Director Kelsey Music, who also has a marketing role at the firm. Not only are employees donating, but when clients see what organizations they’re donating to, they join in as well.

“It’s really cool to hear the employees talk about organizations and causes that they’re passionate about and as a firm be able to help them support those organizations,” she said.

To learn more about Gifts of 30, tune in all year long to see what else HW&Co has planned for 2020.

Excellent idea!!!  It's so easy to blindly donate to national causes such as St. Jude or The American Heart Association, but this firm is, no doubt, endearing itself to their local community for helping those they can literally reach out and touch, get to know.  I would love to do business with a firm that holds values like that!
