CPA Love Story: A ‘working’ relationship

By Nicole Fracasso, OSCPA communications intern

Sometimes connections spark right away, and other times they take time to fully blossom. While Chris and Georgiann Bodle always had chemistry, it wasn’t until two years after meeting when their relationship went from a working friendship to a romantic one.

The pair initially met at Ernst and Young where Georgiann worked on the audit staff and Chris as a manager.

Eventually Chris accepted a new position at Society National Bank, now known as KeyBank. Because Georgiann still worked on the audit for KeyBank, the two remained in contact. And when Georgiann decided to interview for a position there, they hired her.

“Georgiann is the best employee I’ve ever worked with,” said Chris. “Her attention to detail is phenomenal.”

This is when their romantic relationship sparked. Their friends and colleagues seemed to notice their chemistry and were always trying to set them up, said Georgiann. Little did they know the two were already dating, and shortly after they were engaged.

“At work we were all business even though we were secretly dating for a couple months,” said Georgiann.

Once they were engaged, they decided to inform their boss first, and eventually announced the news to their friends over dinner.

“We went to dinner as a group and they invited us separately. It was just after we got engaged and Georgiann had a ring on. After everyone else was already seated, I walked right up to Georgiann and I kissed her,” said Chris. “The table just fell apart, and then Georgiann showed the ring and we told everybody about the engagement.”

Georgiann and Chris married at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cleveland on Oct. 29, 1994. 25 years later the couple can be found spending quality time with their two sons, Nicholas and Alexander. They enjoy walking around their city hand-in-hand, volunteering at the food bank and remaining active in their church.

“Chris is my confidant and he’s my best friend,” said Georgiann. “I could talk with him and ask his advice on anything.”

Today, Georgiann remains at KeyBank as an assistant vice president, internal control and reporting, while Chris now works for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland as a bank examiner.

“I never thought about marrying an accountant,” said Chris. “But I’ll tell you it was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
