The couple attended Hillsdale College from 1994 through 1998, and after being placed in the same group in auditing class had the chance to get to know each other better. They eventually started dating.

Both originally from Michigan, Kim interviewed with KPMG in Columbus senior year of college and moved to the capital city after graduation. Jon worked for PwC in Toledo for a few years before joining Kim in Columbus.

They married in 2002 in Columbus and now live in Westerville with their son and daughter, both active in sports. They also like to play golf, travel and cook when they have the time.

Although both agreed they never expected to end up with a spouse who shared an accounting background, it does have its benefits. Kim is a partner at KPMG while Jon is the director of financial & SEC reporting at Express.

“We have the dynamic where we were both in public accounting, and now Jon is in private, I'm still in public,” Kim said. “So that's also provided perspective for me to hear him talk about being on the client side and for him to hear me talk about being on the client-service side.”

And it usually means your spouse has an appreciation for what’s going on at work when you share stories from your day, although they noted they try not to talk about work in their free time.
