Sales tax 'holiday' returns Friday

Written on Jul 28, 2017

Ohio will have a sales tax 'holiday' starting Friday, Aug. 4 and running through Sunday, Aug. 6 for back-to-school items.

The tax break will again apply to clothing items that cost $75 or less and to classroom supplies and instructional materials priced at $20 or less. Such items include book bags, textbooks, notebooks and pencils.

The Ohio Senate has already added an amendment to Sub. H.B. 49, the biennial budget bill, to provide for another holiday in 2018. The Ohio Department of Taxation has created a Sales Tax Holiday Frequently Asked Questions page available online.
