Each year Crain’s Cleveland Business recognizes 40 professionals under the age of 40 who illustrate hard work and leadership. This year, four OSCPA members have been selected for Crain’s 40 under 40 class of 2019.

One of the recipients is Kendra Williams, CPA, who works as senior manager in the assurance services department at Meaden and Moore in Akron.

“I was definitely very surprised by the nomination,” said Williams, “and I’m overjoyed to be one of the recipients this year.”

Williams attended The University of Akron, where she studied accounting. After graduation, Williams started working at Meaden and Moore as an intern. She has now been with the company for 15 years and has held multiple positions there.

One of William’s favorite parts of her job is the rewarding feeling of bringing in a new client.

“I feel like that’s a major achievement if you’re not a sales person,” Williams said.

Susan Burnoski, CPA, was also surprised by the recognition. Burnoski studied accounting at Case Western Reserve University and has been working for Apple Growth Partners in Akron for her entire career. She began as an intern 12 years ago and is now principal, director of assurance.

According to Burnoski, one of the best aspects of her job is the constant challenge the industry brings.

“There’s so much going on in accounting and finance,” Burnoski said, “there are new regulations and we’re never bored.”

Poonam Jain, CPA, another 40 under 40 recipient, grew up in India where she went to school for commerce. Shortly after graduation, she began her career as a chartered accountant before she decided to move to America.

“It’s a lot different here workwise, there are different challenges,” Jain said, “I was at a beginner level at the time and I’ve grown over the years.”

Jain is now the director of business financial operations at Athersys Inc., in Cleveland where she oversees multimillion-dollar operations and finance activity.

“What I really like about my job is the ever-changing environment; every day is a new challenge,” Jain said.

Michael McGivney, CPA, has also been selected to join Crain’s Forty Under 40 Class of 2019. McGivney currently works as partner for Cohen & Company in Cleveland and attended University of Notre Dame for accounting.

Congratulations again to our OSCPA recipients. All winners will be featured in the Nov. 18 issue of Crain’s Cleveland Business.
