State Rep. Jena Powell R-Arcanum, says “we can do better” when it comes to Ohio’s taxation and regulatory environment.

Powell said CPAs can help state representatives by reaching out and sharing the issues they are having.

“Let's have a meeting. Let's chat about different policies and figure out what are the highs and what are the lows because you're helping us be informed because you guys are the experts as CPAs. And that's how we gather a lot of information from the people and from research.”

She said you can also help by helping small business owners who are the “heart of the economy and our state.”

Powell is now working on the “Tax Correction and Clarification Act” with State Rep. Derek Merrin R-Monclova. They went through the Ohio tax code and fixed more than 125 errors. She said this will help CPAs and anyone doing business in the state by clearing up confusion.

“A lot of people think it's boring to talk about, but it makes a really big difference because we need a system that is clear and concise,” she said. “And when there are errors, errors add to confusion and confusion makes it more difficult for people to do business in our state.”

Powell said it takes everyone’s input to make sure businesses in Ohio are getting what they need to thrive.

“We really are all in this together to make Ohio a more business-friendly state. And it takes every single one of us,” she said. “So, I'm excited to have this conversation and to continue the conversation as well in the future.”
